any decent canister filters for a 45 gallon? under $100

Petsmart.com; Eheim 2213 for $65 and 2215 for $93; free shipping right now for orders over $40. I have the 2213 on a 46g tank; really happy with it, but going to get a 2nd one; seems like you can never overfilter. If you don't want to go the dual filter route, would recommend the 2215 for your tank.

We purchased an Eheim Pro II model 2222 from Big Als for $109.00 That's just a tad more than you want to spend but after alot of research I came to the conclusion that the convenience of having quick disconnect tubing and filter media in easily removable baskets was worth the small extra up-front costs. It will make filter maintenance a quick, simple and tidy operation.

People will tell you the Eheims are quiet...that's an understatement. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that my Ebo-Jager heater makes more noise (when its running) than my filter...and that's VERY little noise. If the water wasn't making ripples on the surface I'm not sure I could tell if the filter was on...

FWIW...

Filstar XP-1. Go to petsmart.com and print out the page with the pics and prices. They will match it. I paid $61.99 for mine. The store price was around $109.

If you decide to do this, the manager will probably argue with you about the fact the sku #'s on the "in store" xp-1 won't match the websites xp-1. This is because Rena is including free ceramic bio-rings on the newest batch of xp-1's. The website hasn't made the correction yet. If the mgr still claims the products are different, DEMAND the he/she call the # for the website. They will tell him that it is in fact the same and you will save around $50.

IMO you won't find a better filter for the $.
