Help! I am a new member to this forum, but have been raising fish, on & off, for over 55 years. I am looking to change my filtration system from using 2 Emperor 400's on my 125 gal tank , along with an undergravel filter, to using either a Eheim 2260, or the new Hagen FX 5 canister, assuming I can get the latter here in the states, along with the undergravel, but perhaps with powerheads.
Does anyone have any experience using the 2260? I'm concerned that cleaning it will be a nightmare, especially since it doesn't have any shutoff valves. I would appeciate any input you can provide, as I need to make this decision within the week
Thanks!.

The Eheim 2250/60 series are outstanding filters. The biggest complaint most have with them is the lack of quick disconnects and rightfully so. If you decide on the 2260, you'll need to also purchase a set of disconnects. Big Al's has them pretty cheap (well, cheaper than most). Just make sure you have the room for it, the filter is huge. Heres a great review with some tips on the 2250, the 60's little brother http://www.cloudytanks.com/reviews/canisters/2250.html

I got a 2260 second hand - it was my first big cannister filter. MG6682 is spot on on the disconnects - very important. It has worked well, and am v. happy with it.

However, I had to buy new media and in retrospect I would have purchased one of the sexy new ones with better disconnects, media included and easier to start/prime.

Getting all the pipes filled with water to start it is a pain in the bum...and another reason the disconnects are critical.

If you are getting it real cheap and with media - great. However, if not consider one of the newer ones...
