Any Fish for a 6 Gallon Refugium?

One can keep a catalina goby in a tank with more tropical temperatures, but it decreases the lifespan:coffee2: :coffee2:

It's just like when the freshwater forum members tell others it's not good to keep goldfish with tropical fish. I really don't see a difference. Sure it can be done, yet that doesn't mean it should be or recommended that it should be done- which can be found on any decent internet site or knowledgeable LFS. Catalina gobies can live in temperatures in the 60s. It's not considered a warm-water/tropical fish. In fact, why shouldn't someone keep their tank at 70F, or less, degrees when they have catalina gobies? I'm sure it's because it's known that their tropical fish won't do well in lower climates and will most likely decrease their lifespan. So why do the opposite? The two temperature ranges hardly overlap.

Edited to add- reminds of of the mandarin dragonet goby. Why not add them to a (cycled) tank that's 1 week old? Hey, they may survive a little while. Why not keep our SW pH at 7.8? I feel these are similar comparisons.

the catalina gobies come from here in California...just off the coast by my house near catalina island, we caught some in out bio class.....the water temp here is below 60 degrees F.....they are not tropical fish and ive consulted many professors on the topic the all agree that they should never be kept in a tropical tank due to the fact that they only live a stressed life of about 1 year in those conditions....sexy shrimp make a nice fuge animal and so do clown gobies.

I'm not going to get a catalina goby. I don't have any desire to inflict stress or harm to any fish.

I'm not dead set on adding a fish to the fuge, it was just a thought. The fuge is a 6 gallon acrylic tank that I drilled. I have a 12 gallon acrylic tank that I am going to drill soon and that will replace the 6g. I wanted to add a mantis shrimp to my fuge, but am scared that it may shatter the acrylic.

I was really hoping to get more information about the Yellow Stripe Clingfish that I had mentioned when I started this thread.

I have a 6 gallon refugium attached to my 30g, and was wondering if there are any fish that I could keep in such a small setup

By defenition, a refugium is a place where all the "small critters" can live without any large-order predators (such as fish...) - so, by introducing a fish into the refugium you are defeating the object of having a refugium. Sure, you can add a small fish, or a mantis shrimp (better choice, by the way...) to the 6 gallon tank, but then you can't call it a refugium any more...

Yes, I see your point, but for me the main reasons for the fuge were:
1-though it seems small, I increased the volume of my tank by 20%

2-I wanted to create an area where I could grow my chaeto on an extended lighting schedule, thus improving nutrient export.

3-I had a camel shrimp in my 30g and learned the hard way that they will eat/harm mushrooms. I don't necessarily want to get rid of it, but I do want to get some more 'shrooms, so I made the fuge for the camel shrimp as much as anything.

I don't know if this disqualifies this setup as being a refugium, but nonetheless, it serves its purpose well and I was just curious if I could keep a small fish with the camel shrimp.

Here's a picture of the setup, but it doesn't show the "fuge" very well
