Im trying to plan a dive trip this spring, looking for the best coral/fish sites, but not at really expensive prices like that of the states or australia.

anyone been somewhere that was amazing at a good price? :dive: :read:

What do you consider expensive? There is a magazine called scuba diving that has tons of information about dive locations. They also have tons of adds with dive package trips. It definately worth a look.

im in chicago. but doing a dive masters degree this spring, so like 2-3 months of diving. too expensive in 1st world places. im thinking about asia, ive done a ton of research, there are so many good places, hard to choose. and im going alone so it has to be safe. know of anyone whos done it?

Just watch out for sharks :) Even though it's my life dream to dive with sharks cause I am crazy about them @.@

Asia would be nice.. My favourite so far is Red Sea, but that's in Egypt (not the safest place in the world..) How about something closer like Cozumel or Roatan? Awesome shark dives there!

Yea going to Hawaii or the Great Barrier Reef would be so awesome, but just not feasible as a recent college grad, looking to pay for 3 months of dive classes. but i will get there soon!

great to know there are some other fish loving divers here, i started off as a diver then got the fish tank and did the fish cause i miss diving!

Oh man Roatan!!! Been there, done that, and you would have to drag me back kicking and screaming. but as far as being an undiscovered caribbean island that charges next to nothing, you are so right on. and the most amazing diving....its just, that island, ugh. id rather charter a boat and dive around it, never stepping foot on it.

And i would love to see a shark on a dive. You have more of a chance of getting struck by lightening TWICE than getting attacked by a shark. But i have to say, i just got back from florida today, Naples, and was standing waist deep in the water this afternoon, and i saw a fin...about 10 feet away! very scary, luckily it was a pack of dolphins! :shark:

Expensive in Australia?? Dude - your money is like gold here.
Aussie dollars are like peanuts for you guys.

Anyways, the box jellyfish season is about October to about April. And after that it's Winter (June to August)- which is still **** hot and tropical in Queensland - but at least the airfares are cheaper.

I'm not a fan of Cairns, its overpriced but accomodation is cheaper. Hamilton Island and surrounds are closer to the reef, but can be a tad more expensive - unless you bring your own equipment.

I set up my fish tanks for the same reason! My friends have a theory that I go "diving" in my 90 gallon....
