hello
im looking for neat tankmates for a pair of female kribs. i had a male previously but they kept almost killing each other so i got rid of the male nd got another female. ive had them for a good while and since i got more time i want to buy more stock as well as heavily planting my 20g . the plants come 2 weeks so now i want to plan the stock. i wan to get a bn pleco to control algea but apart from that im still lookin. the only thing i hate about fishkeeping is that there is way too much choice. another idea would be to ditch the kribs and do an SA community. 2 rams or apistos (males since i got no time or space for fry, still got baby kribs in my 10g)a bn pleco, some cories, tetras and hatchetfish. that way all levels are occupied. im frying some brain cells thinking of all my options. help?

Other dwarf cichlids, barbs, and tetras all make good tankmates.

Some fish that don't make good tankmates are slow moving fish, such as angels or gouramis and fish with long fins.

Also, bottomfeeders may compete for territory.

Hope this helps.

the only thing i hate about fishkeeping is that there is way too much choice.

I hear you on this. I'm setting up a 55 gallon tank, and have been wondering:
fresh or salt? I'd really like to do salt, but its kind of expensive, I could do cichlids instead, bla bla bla, or I could do... etc.

yeah slow moving fish are out of the question. an african butterfly is the ony one i would onsider but now im leaning over to the SA community. i hear that cories can get beat up by dwarf cichlids . i will see.lucky you. a 55g to have fun with. how about a mnuba tank?

You probably won't be able to do cories with either Apistos or kribs in a 20g. Rams might be ok with cories, but I'd just stick with the dwarfs as the sole bottom dwellers.

ps Stay away from the tiger barbs. Way too unpredictable

dont like barbs anyways. yeah i knew that cories are a risk with dwarf cichlids. hmmmmm. i could always go with some of the smaller more fragile apistos(bits, tris,)but i wil have to buy them last. because of their small size i dont think it wouldd be a problem with the cories. they wont be breeding anyways.

Nope. Not for you anyway.

Do you subscribe to a newspaper? People are always selling their aquariums (dirt cheap) in the classified ads. You might want to give it a look.

Not sure if I understood your post, but I would not put apistos in with kribs in a 20g. Both kribs and apistos (even small ones) maintain territories that are larger than a 20g footprint. They are so similar in size and behavior that it would be like putting multiple apisto species in the same 20g (somebodies would get killed) Dwarfs are great for small tanks, but multiple dwarfs are difficult because they maintain territories that are much larger than you would think. Just my 2 cents.
