Hi! I have a 56 gallon tank with no fish right now. I bought the tank about 2 years ago and only did small schooling freshwater fish. My dad had a 55 salt water tank when i was a kid and it was beautiful. You just don't get that beauty with freshwater. I would love to do saltwater but it seems really expensive. Any ideas for stocking, saving $, and/or your suggestion if i should do fresh water or salt would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your help in advance! :D

Get water from the beach. Thats what I did. That would save alot of bucks.

Oh well thats your choice. Whenever I collect water from beach I always end up with fish fry and mysid shrimps :]

Hi Bob, welcome!

Cheap is alot of work. I use sand from home depot. I made my live rock. I have my tank in the window for lighting. You can use a hang on filter, but do get some extra water circulating pumps.

Get a 20 gallon QT (quarantine tank).

Thanks for the tips but i already have coral rock and gravle and a magnum pump and a emperor HOT filter.... i was aking about cheap fish that are neat....sorry should have made that clearer
