I live in Tucson, if you're willing to make the 2 hour drive down here every pet/fish store here always seems to have a decent stock of mysteries.

The closest to me has golds, blacks, browns and blues, occasionally purples too!

Not all snails are illegal. Canas are illegal because these are invasive voracious plant-eating snails. You can include haustrums, paludosas, insularums, Asolene spixi, Marisa cornuarietis and many other apples in the list.

I live in IL and about a year and a half ago all of the local shops stopped carrying snails - mystery and apples - one owner told me they weren't allowed...fast forward 6 months or so and they started showing up again, but only certain types, seems the fish and game dept. hadn't specified which types were banned as invasive and the paperwork took awhile. It's still much more difficult to buy locally.
