Ok, so he has lots of friends in his level which is good. You may have hit the nail on the head, with him being there for just a week - he's still getting used to his tank environment and the outside goings on from his tank. It usually takes a couple of weeks for them to totally settle in.
My female Firemouth is still in hiding after a week, even with the new dither fish I put in yesterday - they have drawn out the male more though.
So long as he's feeding occasionally, he'll be fine. Give it another week and I reckon he'll be far better settled in. Perhaps then introduce dither fish if you're holding off for a bit.
