I like the open style and this one is, in this picture anyway, great: the back looks like a winter sunset with clouds starting to clear away. Whether it looks this good in person or it's an accident of lighting is another matter. Black backgrounds I find boring, even depressing, particularly if light level is already low.
Only thing I would change would be to hide that hideous filter. A large plant, piece of wood, whatever, in the tank to hide the intake tube. And a stand to raise the potted plant on the left enough to hide the filter head (and maybe hang over the tank enough to hide that part?) would get the intrusion of technology out of the scene.
It has a very Japanese feel to me. Not the Amano style but the much older forms of nature paintings from that country. Or maybe I'm just not about to argue with anybody who reads "Good Night Mr. Holmes."
