I would like to set up a standard 40 gal tank to acclimate new arrivals.

I am fairly new to freshwater. Any suggestions?

Would it be recomended to run copper in this tank (or another chemical)? Or would it be best to simply have a normal/healthy tank to introduce the new fish?

Any advise based on expirience with this sort of thing would be apreciatted. Thank you

I would not put any chemicals in the tank unless there is a specific disease you are treating. Also, try and keep the conditions similar to the tank they will ultimately put the fish in. Some people use salt (1 tsp per 5 gallon) in the quarantine tanks but I'm not sure this is necessary. Good luck!

you can use copper meds (at least it's not going into your main tank), but I'd avoid them if possible. The copper binds chemically to the tank itself and will NOT come off under regular circumstances even with heavy cleaning. Copper is highly toxic to invertebrates and will also harm fish if it builds up to higher concentrations. So I always say if you can find something else that will do the trick, stay away from the copper.
