Does anybody have duckweed in their fish tanks. I was going to put some of it in my 12 gallon nano cube. I wanted to make it look more natural. If you do have some duckweed show some pics of it. Plz

Yes I have a plague of duckweed in my 55gal tank. You really don't want to get it in any tank. The stuff grows out of control and is almost impossible to get rid of once it's introduced. I'll take some pics of it in the morning and post them.

The best way of getting rid of duckweed IMO is a goldfish. If you have a tub or another tank to temporarily put your fish in, just lower the temp on the infested tank and add a goldfish. Once all the duckweed has been eaten, take the goldfish back, raise the temp back up, and reintroduce your fish. I did that and never had duckweed problems again,

i have to agree with all the above. i had duckweed in my 10gl, and everyone said it looked cool(including myself). after a cple weeks it took over my tank and blocked alot of light. funny thing is i never even put it in my tank, it just appeared like magic.........deserves the name duckWEED

here's my duckweed, from before it was removed,

It really doesn't give up ;)

It's just me, I guess... I really love feeding the stuff to my goldfishes :D after it became and infestation in my community tank (darkened the tank, 100% of the surface was covered). It was fun to watch them try to eat about 1/3 of the tank surface of duckweed in their 29G. It provides shade for the fishes though. Although, I'm not sure why, but my kuhli loach has been out and about after I added it (only a third of the surface is covered).

If you really like it after what the others have said, I say go for it.

I only left about 10% of the surface, and it has only grown to 1/3 of the surface after 2 weeks (I think). I consider it just a minor task to be done after four weekly water changes. They gave them a bunch of the stuff when I bought some mollies (1/2" about) as I usually buy tons of stuff from them. They usually sell them for $3.99 :|

Or, get salvinia natans. It's like large duckweed (each leaf 1/4 inch). It grows as fast as duckweed, has long fuzzy roots which look kinda nice hanging down, and then if you want to get rid of it, it's easy because of its size.

That looks much better than the common duckweed that I was given. :D I should have a look to where I would be able to buy it.
