Anyone Bred Syno. Multipunk?

Tips? Suggestions?

I have a male and just picked up 3 juvies. I have them in a 110 African tank. I have some mouth brooding Mbuna in with them. I have two of the fem mouth brooders in another tank right now waiting for them to spit out some babies.

Once the Juvie S. Multipunk get bigger I'm hoping the combination of them and the mouth brooding cichlids will net me some kittens...

Because Syno. multipunctatus comes from Lake Tanganyika, most people don't recommend mouth brooding species from there, as they instinctively know to stop spawning when the Synos are doing their breeding passes. With that said, you want a large mouthed Hap type or even Victorian Hap for the best spawning luck with them. It's hard to get the Synos in condition enough in a true mbuna tank on the vegetarian diet they need to be fed, IME. I checked Planet Catfish. They had some info about breeding the false Multipunks but mentioned that it was identical to the multipunk. I was just hoping for some more input like what you said about the vegetarian diet.

Planet Catfish says that they are mainly meat eaters:

Feeds on snails and insects in the wild. Not a fussy eater in the aquarium, but prefers meat based over vegetable based food.

But hey, looks like I have a good use after all for those snails in my other tank that I can't get rid of. Looks like I'm gonna do a little fishing with some zucchini and drop the snail covered zucchini into the tank with the synos.

Did you check the forum? The article in Shane's World? The species information in the CatElog? There's a TON of information on them at PC. I did already hit the high spots though . Try doing a search for them on Planet Catfish. You'll find more information than you can use.
