I dunno if this helps, But you can always join the army. They have many jobs that don't go out in combat. And there is a huge "welcome aboard" bonus (we got 6,000, my friend got 25,000) And the best part is, you can live on base rent free, and if you live off post they pay your rent. I was dirt poor before my husband joined. Like I pushed my car 2 blocks to borrow gas money from my grandma! But now, I have some security. You can also never be fired.
The army has been a great safety net for us as well... They gave my husband a 10k bonus plus 70k in college funds after his 6 years is up just for joining. The bummer is, he's leaving for Iraq Thursday and won't be home for 1.5 years (except for 2weeks in the middle). Even though it's guaranteed income in these rough times, I'd rather he get to stay home. My only consolation is he does computer/communications stuff and will at least be stuck with all the expensive equipment that the military does care about keeping safe...
I have 3 kids all in the 20 something age group. The only words of wisdom I have come up with are,we are all in the same boat just keep rowing, you'll be ok
it is hard out there and i know lots of people running around searching for jobs but cannot find any. My advice right now is to go out there and take whatever you can get your hands on. as long as you have a little bit of money coming in you can still take the time to find something.
