Calcium oxalate is not a big deal, it's in lots and lots of plants. Pothos contains it and people but it in their tanks all the time with no problems. Carrots contain it and my snails gobble them up.
My killifish tank gets bugs in it all the time because they're attracted to the crazy bright light and I have plants next to the tank. I have watched my killis eat gnats, aphids and mosquitoes and they haven't kicked it yet. I have fed other fish mosquito larvae and they are okay, too.
