Anyone ever use a Galileo Thermometer in tank??

i would silicone it to a good level chunk of slate, sturdy but less permanent than sticking it to the tank itself. i think it's a fine idea, you don't have any fish that can bust it.

If I do it, I'm going to bury the base under 2-3" of sand/gravel and it will be in a corner. I may also use a suction cup or two to secure the top (although my biggest, pushiest fish is a dwarf Gourami). The one I have is pretty tall, I'm not sure what the increment between balls is but it has at least 7 balls.

They are actually pretty accurate - what they aren't is responsive. To those who say that they're 10°F off, I say let them equilibrate for 30 minutes.

The only thing I'm worried about with respect to accuracy is the change in pressure. That might throw the whole thing off a little (but I have a NIST traceable thermocouple to check it against).

They can break easily. I had one that got broken because somebody flicked a bottle cap across the room and hit it by accident.

Dont worry about pressure- this is a sealed unit and pressure does not come into play.

As a veteran bottle cap flicker, I can attest to the considerable velocity that can be associated with a well flicked cap. My cories & gourami aren't capable of generating those sorts of forces.

True, but I'd be more worried about it getting broken while the tank is being cleaned (bumped by a rock, etc)... However, it is a cool idea.
