I saw this lunar light on ebay. Just curious if anyone has ever tried this option:

I want to get lunar light. I am trying to figure out what will work with my Current Nova Extreme 2x54w T5 fixture. Is it safe to put a row of LED's in with the bulbs on that fixture? It gets fairly hot. I have a glass top, so it may be possible to set something else on the glass.

My backup is the "spotlight" that I have seen others recommend on drsfostersmith

keep in mind that you can use any strip of led's as lunar lights.... they are absolutley nothing fancy. same as in any electronics, party lights etc... a lot of the Current fixtures have leds too, I'd say if you keep it away from the heat source it should be ok... but have not tried myself.

No, I havent used that moonlight; it looks decent, but if you're looking for a cheap alternative I would recommend using blue christmas lights if you have any.

I added one of these to my 75g tank - IMO, looks great at night! Tough to capture the beauty in a picture, but I went and took a quick snapshot for ya.

I liked this one because it came in a reflector hood that fit right on my tank.

I saw those too on ebay. Do you have room for other lights or do you just put this on your tank when you want to use them? I have a Current Nova Extreme fixture and for me to use these would be just like the picture on ebay - I'd have to put it over the lids that open up on my all glass top.

I have this plus my normal lighting reflector - its only a couple inches or so wide; fits perfectly across the tank. Have it and the other lights on timers - I dont move a thing.

I suppose blue **LED** Christmas lights would work, or maybe even the big fat old-fashioned bulbs, maybe on a small tank--but on a 55 gallon, a string of blue twinkle lights provide no appreciable light.
