anyone growing Hairgrass?

Frank Greco on the PetsWarehouse site claims that eleocharis (hairgrass) is not suitable for aquarium use. This must be news to Amano since he uses it so much. He suggests it may be better for terrariums.

Does anyone have personal experience growing any form of Eleocharis submerged for long periods? Any problems to report?

As to the culture, I'm pretty good at it.

Is it found in nature submersed? I've seen several acres myself.
You also pointed out that Amano seems to do fine with it.
I have a turf in two tanks. I've grown it for about 8 years or so? Something like that. Main thing is keeping it nice a clean, don't let things settle in it, sinking Riccia will intermingle, bladderwort, algae can get tangled in it. Other than that, it's pretty easy to deal with and requires no pruning to speak of.

I hear folks whine about trimming their tanks etc, and how hard Amano's tanks are etc, well Amano likes these tanks for reason. They are easy once established. Crank the CO2 up high, add lots of shrimps and take care of the NPK and traces. No pruning like stem plants. You can check the APD also.

FYI, you might hit a nerve bringing that name up with a number of people. They are suing a number of customers that complained about their service.

I did not mean to rustle any feathers by bringing up Pets... you know. I kind of forgot about that deal. I was just surfing around and came upon that statement which threatened my vision of the tank I am assembling now in my head.

Sinking Riccia?

Tom Barr.....where to we get this "sinking riccia". I've got all kinds of money invested in hair nets to hold this stuff onto rocks.
Sinking riccia would simplify things considerably.

Careful, ye who ask for the vilest of weeds may not feel that way after a month or more.
It's a step up from algae as far as I am concerned. I'd rather have alga epersonally, I can get rid of that at least.

If you like a pure hairgrass stand, don't add Riccia.

Under high light and good nutrients the air lacunae are crushed and the plant no longer floats.
It also does not pearl anywhere close to waht it use to which is a main point for having it. It's the same species, just different morphology and anatomy.

It turns 4 shades darker in color, not quite as dark as Bolbitus.
It infest everything.
