Anyone have a tall(as in 30") planted tank?

I wanted to see if other people on here has a tall planted tank like me. To see what equipment they have. Right now I'm working with a Catalina T5 - 4-54 watt 216 watts.

A few years back I had a 48x18x30 from Glass Cages that i kept as a low light planted tank. I used a Ebay offbrand 4x55CF set up with 6700 bulbs from AH supply and it was pretty successfull. No C02 and only dosed kent essential minerals and some occaisional excel during the rare algae problem. I was happy with that set up though I did stay away from what were considered high light plants.

Ok thanks. I'm trying to decide if I can get away with no CO2 or go with DIY CO2 or save up and go pressurized. I've been reading up on DIY and pressurized (I still need to do more research) but I read some people saying your better off going and paying the more than doing it the DIY way. I have to figure out how much the DIY way would cost. Figure out the way pressurized would cost and than see what way is worth it.

On that size tank, I would suggest pressurized. It appears that it is over 100 gallons. I think DIY would be pretty frustrating. I have a 120 gallon setup that uses pressurized and it was tough enough finding a reactor that would dissolve the CO2 quick enough. Of course, it kind of depends on your plants too. Will this being a heavily planted tank with high light and high light plants or will you be shooting for low light plants with not a lot of light on the tank? I have high light plants that grow like crazy and consume CO2 aplenty.

Ultimately, try the DIY if it will not cost you too much money. If it will actually cost you a decent sum for the DIY, think about using that money for a pressurized system instead.

ksaul,

I was going to send you a PM about this, but it doesn't look as though you have enabled them. Or, maybe it is because you do not have enough posts yet to allow PM's. Who knows.

Anyway, I was wondering how you liked the tank you got from Glass Cages? I have been considering a large tank purchase from them, but have read a couple of bad comments on them that has me somewhat gun shy. If you do not want to post it to the board, you can send me a PM or e-mail.

Thanks

Since I only have 1.96 wpg that ain't alot of like for co2 am I better off just using flourish excel? Also I would need alot of fast growers in my tank to stuck up the nutrients so I don't get algae.
