Anyone here drink kombucha?

do more research on it. i think some people died in iowa from it

but i think thats cause it was home brewed. to much of the stuff (i think mushrooms) is potent

You gotta be careful with the home brewed. My friend was brewing some for a while but the culture got contaminated and she had to throw it out. Funny thing, the fungus ball will float up and down like a marimo ball depending on environmental conditions (i guess). You know, it honestly doesn't taste that terrible to me, but maybe it's because I'm used to eating/drinking fermented things.

a quote from kombucha america page seven...

http://www.kombuchaamerica.com/page7.shtml

"There are rumors that people have died from drinking the tea, again nonsense, if this were the case the FDA would have immediately issued new warnings to that effect. No such warnings exist or have ever been published by either the FDA or CDC (Center for Disease Control) I think I can safely say that more people in one year have died from taking aspirin (about 1000 yearly) than have died, IF ANY, from drinking Kombucha tea in its entire 2000 year history.

One such false "death" rumor started in Iowa back in 1995 when two elderly women became "mysteriously" ill (as reported by the local newspaper and quickly picked up by the national press). Both were found to have been drinking Kombucha Tea and the local town paper immediately offered the wild speculation that their illness were related to drinking this "strange tea". The fact that a lot more people in the same town were also drinking the tea and were not getting mysteriously ill seems to have slipped their notice."

you never know untill you try it, high country goji is a reall good one and it's about 3 dollars a bottle.

i was thinking about making some kombucha myself but i don't have the money to buy a starter culture, can i make one my self?

Very strange. I homebrew beer and wine, and the object is to keep all that crap out of the fermentation...a contaminated beer wash looks and smells TERRIBLE. And now suddenly, you do it on purpose and its health food? I'm with rb, I never have and most likely never will try this stuff.
