Hi,

I just got back from my LFS with a new fish! Oh, yeah.:dance2: Then I looked it up and the "yeah" went down the drain. My new High Fin Shark, also known as Chinese Highfin Sucker, Sailfin Sucker, Chinese Sucker, Wimple Carp is said to get 40" long!!! Well seeing that I don't own my own lake, that's a bit big for me. Now, I could turn him in when he gets too big and they do say they're slow growers. By the way the LFS owner said they wouldn't get any bigger that 6 inches. Maybe he figured that I'd kill the fish way before it got to 40". Another strange thing, they're protected in China.

Has anyone had one of these fish? I'd love to know your experience with it. :help:

Thier protected becuse they are an endgered species. They are also a scoolig fish and need to be kept in groups to do well..and like jon said they get big and not so pretty.

I just got rid of mine. I had it since sept. of last year. it survived ich..(twice) and moving to a new place. It was only 4" long I kept it in a 29G But due to their large size down the road I gave up on it. Heres what I learned:
They are coldwater fish. are most active at night....at least mine was. Get along fine with other fish. Preffer lil caves and such to hide in. If you have a planted aquarium....they like to re-arrange your plants....ie Uproot/eat them. You can have more than one in a tank... despite the fact that the Pets smart said no... Mine ate algea wafers. and such. All in all a Very nice looking fish when they are young but when they get older they loose their "look" to them ie dorsal fin and look pretty darn ugly IMO. Kinda like a backwards ugly duckling.

Hope this helps you can always PM me if you have any "?"'s
