JUat Curious if anyone owned an Arrowhead pufferfish? I wanted to know what type of enviorments you had yours in. Also what it was compatible with. Maybe just get some info on them.....i have one.

Lurker-predator puffers are best as singletons. They may be kept also in a species tank of several, provided it is of sufficient size and heavily planted with more overhangs/largish caves/refuges with light-of-sight barriers between each.
They have been captive bred.

Yeah I have one in a 29g by itself. The tank is fairly heavily planted and it prefers to hide out in a dark spot near driftwood and under crypts or lotus. Only recently did it take to burying itself in the substrate, which is Onyx sand.
I feed it two times a week. Food alternates between krill, gut fed ghost shrimp, mussels and silversides.
I am moving it to a 55g in the not too distant future to make it easier for me to maintain the plants (and also wife reasons
) because the 29g has a fairly small footprint. It doesn't like it when I have my arm in the tank and makes threatening gestures to me, which makes me nervous.

Ha yea i know what you mean. I am starting my tank new. Mine just died but im getting a new one. It will be in a 29 gallon tnak. You said you had onyx sand? I was oging to put sand in mine, but im looking for a white sand....What kind of sand did you put in. Where did you getit from? I might add another puffer with it. A pignose, its almost like a congo puffer. It is white and stays in its own area. Youi think i could put a toad fish in with the arrowhead? Or what would you suggest?
Onyx sand is a planted tank substrate made by Seachem. You should be able to get it at any good LFS. I'm not too keen on the grayish color but it works ok.

thats not what i was told aobut tank mates with the arrowhead....how does it work for you, would you have preffered gravel
If I was going to keep more than one arrowhead I'd do one per 50g of water, heavily planted and lots of broken sight lines. These are aggresive fish and need their space. Any other species of tankmates would also have to be able to hold their own, which could introduce all sorts of aggression problems. Another thing is they are very messy and grow to 6 inches. More fish in a 29g would create water stability problems.
As for the gravel, I do prefer finer grains for an arrowhead.
So to sum up, one arrowhead is a showfish in itself for a 29g. I did add a dozen ghost shrimp to my tank about two months ago. There's at least five that are still in there and know where it's safe to hang out. Those are my puffers 'tankamates'.

I was windering are there any other tank mates for the suvatti, i have a pleco in there, but i wanted somehting a bit more colorful. I got all natural plants in there and some white stones. Anyone know what else would work with a arrowhead?
