Anyone Still use Dial-up?

It is interesting to see how many people still use dial-up. Especially those who can't get anything else.

I work at a telecom, one of our products is managed modem wholesale (dialup) to the larger ISPs... there are still 450,000 simultaneous connections to our network... used to be 1.2 million... figure 8x oversubscribe.. that is roughly 3.6 million people across the US using dialup through our company alone. We are probably the largest player left in the market, I would guess the total in the US is somewhere close to 6 million households on dialup.

Close in to major cities is going down, while outlying areas are going up or are flat.

Dial-up? I would use dialup if every website would just have text, but nowadays it's filled with ads and huge banners. I have dsl and i think it's just fine, as i don't download much, but streaming videos is getting a little annoying.

I've spent a half hour to check/load my email before at my parents house on their dial up. I've have a hard time going back unless I was hardly ever online anymore and only checked my email once in a while.

I just got dsl in March of this year. I'd been screaming at the local phone company to get high speed to us for at least 5 years. We've had a lot of trouble getting it to work and I am composing a letter to the public service commission in my state over the conduct of the phone company.

It's a huge improvement over dial up.

Anybody remember the days of AOL dialup back in the early ninties. I remember waiting for about 2 hours before a spot opened up so I could get online to see that I didn't have any mail.
