Well I think my papuan toby needs his teeth trimmed. I've given him freeze dried krill routinely but I noticed this evening that his teeth look too long. I read an article on the Puffer Forum about this procedure which seems pretty straightforward, but this is scaring the hell out of me! I think I will try and catch him in the evening when he's sleeping...my tank has lots of places to hide and he conveniently sleeps about 8" from the top of the tank in a corner....
Anyone done this recently? Any words of wisdom?
Thanks!!
Robbie

I haven't tried to hold a fish captive and do anything like this, but I agree with ↑...

Apparently you can sedate these guys with some clove oil and then trim their teeth fairly easily. Still seems scary to me, but I guess I have to do it!
Thanks!

I was going to send you the article on TPF but I guess you read it already! I know people that have followed that article and they said its really easy. Just make sure to mix the clove oil in the water well and DONT overdose. Because its also a way to euthenize fish.

I haven't had to trim my puffers teeth yet! Hopefully if I keep feeding snails I won't have to :)

Thanks Spock....what do you use for feeder snails?

There is a woman on MR that has done it before I think I will send her the link and she might be able to give you some advise, her screen name on MR is

HA!! This is gonna be great, Someone video tape this for the rest of us!!
:grinyes:
I'll see what I can do....catching the fish will probably be more interesting than the tooth trimming.
