Yeah, I actually used bio spira to set up 3 tanks recently (about 15 days ago) and haven't had any problems. I used it in two ten gallon tanks and one 29, and each went through a period that lasted about two days where the water was kind of "milky." I assume that was just the bacteria blooming or something, and none of the fish seemed to be effected. In two of the tanks, I put the fish in the day after I added the bio spira, and in the third, about five days. All of the fish are still doing fine.

I've used BioSpira on two tanks and have been pleased with the results. These were new tanks and it did not totally eliminate ammonia within 24 hours but within 48 hours it was less than 0.1 mg/L per my Nutrafin Ammonia test kit. I have continued to check on a weekly basis and the readings are still less than 0.1 mg/L. I am hoping to get them to zero once the tanks settle in. If need be, I will add additional small doses of BioSpira. My intial doses were slightly under the recommended dose to be safe.

I have used bio spira 3 times with excellent results. I am at a loss as to what happened in your case. I have some questions. Did you add the bio spira to the tank immediately before or after adding fish to the tank? It's supposed to be added to a tank with a zero ammonia level. Was the bio spira refrigerated? They now say it's okay not to be refrigerated before using, but who knows if the temperature stayed stable if it wasn't? Your bio spira may have gotten too warm. What are your parameters now?
