I have a 20g high tank that is 24" length. I currently have 1.5wpg. I am looking to upgrading my lighting and picking up a co2 kit. Right now I have a couple of the aponogeton bulbs that are growing but very slowly. Along with these I am looking into planting the tank a lot more. I saw this light on www.drsfostersmith.com. The light would raise my wpg to a little over 3wpg. If you know of a better setup for a reasonable price please let me know. It also says it comes with a 1000k bulb, is this temperature recommended for a planted freshwater tank? Oh the light can be found here:

I have a 36" dual version of the same thing by the same company (Current) on one of my tanks and it is a fine piece of equipment. The fans are relatively quiet and my plants love it. Coralife makes a similar fixture that is a bit cheaper but I haven't tried theirs.
The bulbs that come standard in that fixture are for saltwater. You'd need to switch it/them out for a 6700 K bulb or bulbs.
There is a guy selling cheaper no-name versions of these fixtures on eBay. I have been trying to win one to check it out but I've yet to succeed at the price I am willing to pay given that I will have to change out those bulbs as well.

No. The dual came with 1 10,000 and 1 6700. I switched out the 10,000 for another 6700 so mine has 2 6700s in it.

Mgamer, have you had success using the actinic (blue) bulbs on freshwater plant tanks? I'm just curious if it will work or not.
