I was traveling over the weekend and ran across a fine LFS in Indiana. The owner told me I could save $$$ to upgrade my lighting by getting a shoplight casing and then buy the bulbs separately. Anyone else done this?

I use 2 48” shop lights on my 75 gallon tank. I need more wattage but it was a chap start for setting up the tank. I’m thinking that my shop lights were $7 each and I got 2 different types of bulbs. 2 were $9 and the other 2 were $5. I got them at Home Depot. I have a wooden canopy on my tank and mounted the shop lights on draw slides. That way I can push them back and do most of the work to the tank and only lift the canapy off every other cleaning.

It is done quite often fo FOWLR tanks and for fresh water tanks.

You can also use the lights sold as outdoor safe floodlight fixtures. I've use LOA PC over tanks.
