Some of you prolly already know this, but there are a lot of fish out there that are painted and put on desplay as "Blueberry Tetra's" and "Strawberry Tetra's". A lot of fish are used as canvases and get modified with dye. for an example a glass fish, Injected with Dye to make them look apealing to you and me. This kind of treatment is extremely harmful to the fish, I resently bought 2 Strawberry tetras and found this out AFTER I bought it. When the Fish are dyed they are more suseptible to disease and have a much shorter life span, these are just some of the bad things that happen when fish are modified with dye. I'm not going to take my fish back, instead im going to look at this as a animal rescue and try to keep them alive as much as I can. The dye wares off after a few months so they will look like White Skirt tetras in a while. Check out this site, it's where I found out all of this information.

I consider this a huge case of animal cruelty and Suggest you dont support this and not buy these fish.

Yeah, I, too, bought 'Strawberry Tetras', not knowing until too late that they were white skirt tetras dipped to give them a pink hue. It was a natural looking color so I was not suspicious. I bought them in the spring and they're still alive & doing well, but I won't buy them again.
It's such a shame.

I'd heard about these before but hadn't seen any until 3 weeks ago. I've been trying to find a certain store near town for months. So finally I was passing through the town it's in and stumbled across it. I'd have to say the store was a dive the lady working seemed half baked and I was about to buy some plants until I saw the painted fish. Nothing like neon yellow green and pink fish to turn me off to a place. Ok so it wasn't the only thing...

That is interesting news. We have often bought the "fruitloop" tetras at our LFS because they are pretty cheap! Could these be dyed? I hav seen them with different names in different shops. I think I'll avoid them now! Come to think of it they don't last a long time, although we have one left of the batches we have had who is hanging in there.
