Apistogramma Borellii Won't Eat? ***HELP***

Flakes today and still no reaction...

@ msjinkzd I'm going to try a mix of baby brine and blood worm tomorrow.

Sat/sunday is my water change day if they haven't eaten by then I'm not sure if I should bother with the water change or not?

do the water change. its likely they are snipping at foods you are not seeing. If htey are not looking unhealthy, give it some time.

yes sound like a fish adjusting to the tank and water conditions. dont be worried about her these are strong fish , ive kept them in the past i no they are a good strong fighting fish, also ur method of adding water is ok for tetra's but not these u need to drip or use little amounts of tank water to acclimatise them so the shock dosnt hurt them and they can adjust slowly to your water ,good luck tho when they do start to breed they brred very fast and often trust me

I disagree with the acclimation talk, but will save that for another day.

For how they are doing now, as fish that are alive, tempt them after a week has passed. THEN start to worry.

It certainly sounds like the fish are exhibiting signs of shock. Unless they were already sick in the store, or wherever they came from.

And I'm not simply voicing an opinion when I stress the importance of acclimation. In the gills, there are only 1 to 2 layers of cells separating the water from the fish's blood stream. Blood pH directly affects hemoglobin's affinity for oxygen, and its ability to expel CO2. And oxygen deprivation damages tissues and organs.

The fact is that a sudden pH shift will kill fish far more quickly than a little ammonia in the bag. There's nothing to lose by waiting.

Sorry to get all sciency. But getting the fish in the tank as quickly as possible is a big mistake, one that I made too many times when I was a newbie.

I'm not sure if this counts but I have some of the water they were packaged in/shop water. I tested it with nutrafin. My aquarium ph is 8.0

The ph they were packaged in is 7.5

I got the water from the fishbags which I was going to dry out and reuse when necessary. But it's been so cold that there was still some left (5ml between the 7 bags)

A few pics

The female doing the surface thing but not gulping for air?

By the way none of my stock came from the same Ph as my tap water. I have introduced each of them to the tank using the exact same method and time...

When you dripped in your higher pH water, any ammonia in the bags turned 5X more toxic. This isn't usually a problem with locally bought fish, but if you have them shipped in, it's something to keep in mind. They're gorgeous, btw! I'm sure they'll be okay with time.

For more info on acclimation, there's a good thread here:

she looks clamped finned and thin, keep an eye out on her

Yeah I'm going to do a half Blood and Daphnia tomorrow and hope that helps.

I don't believe that the ph has hurt them. I'v got fish from the same fs, they sent me green neons on my initial stocking day. Green neons are supposedly the delicate of the delicate and they have all been good for 6 months.

I'm hoping my double zeros will help them deal with whatever is wrong with them!

I added frozen blood worm and both the male and female had one each. It took both abut 30mins of spitting it out and eating it from time to time but they have both eaten one.

The male went for one and I dropped some blood worm right next to the female.

What should I feed them next and what's my next recommended course of action!

If it is ph burn will they adjust or are they doomed?
