Aponogeton Bulbs????

Many apons will go dormant after they flower. The bulbs may come back after a few weeks if they were able to absorb enough nutrients from the substrate during the dormant phase. As far as "needy" is concerned, apons definately need potassium like a previous poster mentioned, iron suppliment, good lighting, as well as regular N,K and traces. I have also found that my apons do better at a warmer temperature. When I had my temp at about 70F, the plants grew slowly. But soon after increasing the temp to 78-79, the aponogetons started growing much faster.

for example, yesterday there was no flower stalk on my second largest apon. I've been looking because i don't want it to flower and slow growth.

Today the stalk i removed from the plant was about 8-9 inches long.

I think elves sneak into the house and fertilize my tank during the night.

I got a couple of these on a lark a few months ago, threw one in my 2.5g to see what would happen - no dice.

Threw the rest into my 20 (standard flourescent starter kit lighting) a little over a week ago - only one sprouted (I pulled the rest after a day or so - they'd gone soft), but I've got eight leaves 6+ inches high and a reasonably established root system already.

In my experience, you're going to get many duds, but the ones that grow, really grow.
