apple snail air tube????

so my snail has been inactive for a few days...today i looed at him and he has this disgusting tube comming out of it, i looked on yahoo and it looks like an air tube...is this what is is and what does it mean???? its doing this at the bottom of the tank if this means anything

quick update, it is crawling up my scenery, and seems to be reaching towards the surface!!!

Apple snails are air breathers and have a snorkel/siphon tube to extend to the surface without having to expose themselves there to predators (birds, etc.).
