Could everyone please share their experiences about apple snails kept with particular plants successfully or not? This will not include the Pomacea diffusa (formerly Pomacea bridgesii) as we all know they can work well in almost every planted tank setup. Apple snails in reference to include the canas, haustrums, paludosas, spixis, marisas, etc.

P. canaliculata
Plants eaten: Java moss, duckweeds, vallisneria, Egeria densa, Nymphaea lotus, Amazon swords

Plants ignored (could simply be coincidental that they are already full): Cryptocoryne becketii, C. wendtii

My spixis only eat decaying plant parts. I've never seen them chop on live plants.

(As a food item, they go nuts for cabbage and will choose that over zucchini or broccoli.)

Should have clarified it has to be the hybrid spixis that eat the plants than the pure ones due to gene inheritance from marisas.lol Can't hurt to share your experience either way.:)

not experience, but would you not be able to get away with java fern... i have read on several occasions that its not tasty on the palate. Its meant to have a very bitter taste

My flapples love wisteria and guppy grass, and they'll nibble on java moss now and then. They don't seem to care for aponogeton plants though.

None of my snails eat duckweed. With my spixis I am keeping needleleaf java fern, anubias barteri, and moss. Only the littlest babies seem to munch, leaving the plants alone as they get over pea-sized.
My canas and haustrums eat anything but duckweed, even anubias, java fern, etc.

Funny you'd say that..I was looking for a spare to test as I don't want to buy one and then end up possibly having mine eaten.lol Most fish eat Java ferns but die from poisoning. I'd have to test a few juveniles once I have this plant.

Rach, your canas must be selective to ignore duckweeds. Mine don't.:lipssealedsmilie: They really eat anything they see except the crypts but they could have been full of Java moss already. And oddly enough, the friend to whom I gave some of my canas reported her Java moss is totally ignored.

My marisas eat guppy grass (najas?), frogbit, and cabomba. So far they have either ignored the duckweed or it grows faster than it's eaten.
