I did read they would eat dead shrimp, snails etc. Is there any chance they would actually kill a shrimp to eat it? I am not sure if the shrimp (head) I found this morning died of natural causes or what but my apple snail was eating it this morning. I know it was a shrimp because it still had it's eyes and stuff and shrimp don't shed those. There were a fed sheds nearby maybe the shrimp had a hard molt. Would an apple snail eat a freshly shed shrimp? I am sort of freaked out but, it's cool at the same time...because it's nature. I am asking to make sure my other shrimp are safe...they finally started breeding! I am finally seeing babies :thm: should I set up a tank just for my apples or am I just over reacting?

I have never had a bridgesii eat a live shrimp but have read reports specifically of cana's being able to catch fish/shrimp to eat. I would doubt if fed well it would become a recurrent issue. Its more likely it would eat one that was ailing or already deceased

Apple snails are fine especially the Pomacea diffusa. The canaliculata complex however does tend to have an aggressive side and may display predatory instincts especially when they are starved halfway to death. This is why for the most part, the canaliculata complex (canaliculata and insularum) ae regarded as invasive species with high risk of destruction to both flora and fauna. They can avidly consume even fish eggs and small species of snails (in most cases) resulting in the decline of most species. I do have canas here but I never mix them with anything else due to their aggressive feeding habits.

This was one of my dark striped purple, and they are by far starving. I believe it to be a brigs? I know it's not a cana. I don't even think I could get one if I wanted to. In all honesty, I have a bad memory that is why I write all this in my journal. Anyway...

Their diet consists of Ken's invert sticks w/calcium, algae wafers, fresh zucchini, squash, de-shelled peas, broccoli stems, blanched turnips etc. I feed once a day, and keep the water clean. I remove old food if there is any left, usually just the vegies they devour the sticks. I wanted to make snail jello this weekend have not tried it yet. Do I need to be feeding them meats??

I hope the shrimp had already passed of just old age :irked:

So my shrimplets should be ok...I can leave them w/the apples?

Shrimplets are fine. Your snail is a brig. No canas have dark striped purple color variant either. As for meat, I'd stick with bloodworms, tubifex and anything intended for fish.

Thanks!! I will try the snail jello this weekend I have tubiflex and bloodworms so I will add that in for extra protein. :D
