Hi
I got a couple of apple snails in a 35 litre tank
What should i feed them?
i have algae waffers,should i pop 1 in a week?
the tank hasnt much algae.
how often should i feed?

Mine eats whenever I feed my other fish as I have alot of bottom dwellers and it always comes in to eat what is left over or sometimes he gets there before the others do! I also give him some veggies from time to time. I think you should def. feed him more then once a week.

Feed them raw peeled potatoes, zucchini, cucumber, and things like that along with the algae tablets. I give mine algae tablets every few days or so and give them veggies once a week. They are doing well, have even had babies.

I'm a bit obsessed by my snails :D They get quite a variety of foods and they need foods high in calcium for strong shells.
My menu includes:
Romaine lettuce
Kale
Collard greens
Dandelion greens (yes, the ones from the yard...no fertilizer or pesticides!)
Mustard greens
Green beans
Shelled peas
Snail jello (baby food, gelatin, fish food and calcium powder)
Snail cookies (a variety of things including the above veggies, some fruits, cocktail shrimp and dog biscuits, blended and dehydrated)
Shrimp pellets/algae disks
I keep a small rubbermaid box in the freezer with snail food in it. When it is time to feed I break off a bit of veggie or whatever and let it thaw before dropping it in the tank. All the greens and veggies are boiled then frozen so they are soft enough for the snails (I have mysteries/brigs not apple/canas). Did I mentioned I'm obsessed? LOL!

snail i.d. please

Hi, newbie here on snails...

I have taken over some snails and have no idea what they are. Mystery apple seems about right. Robust yellow shells; beautiful big feet with apricot mother of pearl marbling on fringes of feet. really quite amazing. As for feed, ground feeder tablets meant for pleco's... the snails find them first... !!
4 ft tank covered in sub 5 minutes...

BanTil,
Do you have a picture of the other side of the snail? It is hard to distinguish which type without seeing the pointed part of the shell.
http://www.applesnail.net/content/species/pomacea_bridgesi.htm This link shows pomacea bridgesii or what many call mystery snails. These are plant safe snails and get about the size of a golf ball.
http://www.applesnail.net/content/species/pomacea_canaliculata.htm This link shows pomacea canaliculata or apple snails. These will mow down a planted tank and get baseball sized.
