I got this warning

Warning: Water temperature requirements are not fully compatible between all selected species.
=> 22 - 24C: Dwarf Petricola
=> 24 - 28C: Maingano Mbuna
=> 22 - 30C: Metriaclima sp. Msobo
=> 24 - 28C: Pseudotropheus Acei
=> 25 - 29C: Cynotilapia Afra

Besides the petricola they are all from the same lake. And the petricola are well suited to live with mbuna.

I agree. In fact, Petricola has a special flag so that it won't show warnings with mbuna species even though they are from different lakes. Looks like I will have to make some minor adjustment to temp requirement for some of the species above. Petricola temp requirement came from planetcatfish though. What temp are you currently keeping your species?

I also don't see how 9 dwarf petricola stocks my 80 gallon 50%. They only get to be 3-3.5" long.

Actually I have it at 3.9 inches (again from planetcatfish). Either way, did those guys make your tank go from 0 to 50% or 50% to 100%? Huge difference between those two.

Thanks for all your work. I just used your program for my 75 gallon tank and am going to start on the 48 gallon one next. With some trepidation. I came in at 69% filtration but couldn't figure out how to add my sponge filter and two power heads I have for current.

Yeah, sponge filters are a bit tricky since I would need to know the surface area of your sponge. I have added some common sponge filter products on the list already. What brand is yours?

The dwarf petricola get that large? The breeder I got mine from said they rarely get to 3'5" Anyway it was the first thing I added so it went from 0-50% when I added them.

Perhaps he is right. I'll keep this note as a future reference for the Dwarf Petricola size.

As for %, think of this example:

Lets say you can fit 20 neon tetras in a 20g tank. What % of tank space do you need to handle 1 neon? The common sense says probably something significantly greater than 1g. This is the effect you are seeing here. Try filling up your tank up to 50% with other species then try adding those Petricolas again. You won't see it go from 50% to 100%. Quite a bit less to be exact.

I was wondering how easy it would be to add filters for criteria such as:-
Size range
Water hardness range
Temperature range
Diet (Carnivore, herbivore, omnivore)
Typical level used in tank (top; middle; bottom; combinations)
Origin (Continents/countries; still/slow/fast water; fresh/brackish/marine... would be great for biotopes)

I have to confess that I have not read this thread and I bet all the above have been brought up a thousand times or more ;)

Aqadvisor has been a great help to me over the last month, in helping to explore the whole of possibilities that exist in aquauriums :)

Size and temperature ranges are already feasible - try "Advanced Search" link. :grinyes:

As for the other attributes, all of them are actually already in DB but may not be completely up to date. My long term goal is to introduce all of them.

To be honest, yes all of them were brought up in the past by others. Wasn't even my own idea... :grinyes:

Glad that the app helps!

What's new for 2010 05 09 build:

- This release is really a special edition for Betta (Splenden)! They are a common species for fish keepers but with peculiar compatibility requirement so I want to make sure compatibility is accurately addressed. Basically it is an attempt to address compatibility of betta vs everything else (well, at least a shot at it, I'm sure it will need further adjustments). Please see the long message at the bottom of this post for the details and let me know if any of it sounds inaccurate! Apology in advance for the length of this post.
- Added Bearded/Checkerboard/Filigree Cory (Scleromystax barbatus).
- Added Lacerda Cory C015 (Scleromystax lacerdai C015).
- Added a note to male Betta that they can become stressful under presence of too many shoaling species around it in a small tank.
- Added Hi Fin Peppered Cory (Scleromystax macropterus).
- Added Scleromystax prionotos.
- Size of Dwarf Petricola has been adjusted down to 3.5 inches.
- Congo Tetra has been marked as a fin nipper.
- Tiger Loach has been marked as a fin nipper.
- Aggression for Yoyo Loach has been increased.
- Dwarf Loach has been marked as a fin nipper.
- Yoyo Loach has been marked as fin nipper.
- Bioload factors for larger cories have been increased slightly.

- Total number of species in DB has been increased to 879.

"A note on betta compatibility. For the male betta (splenden only), I went through a great deal of trouble to identify compatible species in greater depth.
At a higher level, I have created the following groups:
- ""Corydoras""
- ""Large Snail""
- ""Small Peaceful Loach""
- ""Small Peaceful Shoaling""
(I may need to create more groups in the future)
I've marked Betta male as being incompatible (will recommend user to do further research) with EVERYTHING except these groups. ""Corydoras"" group is self explaning - it contains those species. ""Large Snail"" group contains all snails that are larger than 0.5 inches. Ramshorn is considered small and there are reports that Betta consumes them. ""Small Peaceful Loach"" group contains currently only one family of species - Kuhli Loach family. ""Small Peaceful Shoaling"" group currently contains the following species listed below. They are basically anything that shoals in the mid/upper level, peaceful, under 3 inches, and not fin nippers. If anything here shouldn't belong in this group, PLEASE LET ME KNOW (especially the fin nippers)."

- If you find species from the above list that are not safe with Betta splenden with long fins.
- Point out species that are not talked about in this post but safe with Betta splenden. I have not covered any non-shoaling species so I must have missed something there. So far, I have the following in the list: (African Dwarf Frog, Oto).

Thank you!
