Aqua clear - filter setup

Im sure someone else has said this (i didnt read all of the replys), but i use 2 sponges and one of the new bio-max inserts. catches all the debri and has a lot of space for bacteria

Aqua Clear has replaced the third-stage ammonia package with a biological cermaic thing - bunch of little pellits in a large mess bag for bacteria to live on. they now say you can subsititue the amaonia package for the carbon if you want. also, they have changed all of the filter names - your 150 is no called a 30. I would recommend replacing the carbon package at least every two months, only replace the foam if it becomes damaged or so saturated you can't get it clean and it is reducing flow.

I just bought another AC 30 to use in my turtle tank and installed it with three foam inserts to provide lots of extra mechanical filtration (critical for reptiles that shed and produce large quanities of waste).

I use two foam blocks and the biomax in mine, plus I have a prefilter sponge on the intake. No reason to keep buying carbon cartridges when they aren't needed.

I used to use doubled sponges in my AC's; now I use a sponge and the biomax media. The sponges were working just fine, though.
