Aqua clear too powerful?

not necessarily, because you can always turn it down a bit if its too much. i would say 10g/hr filtration turnover is pretty good. i usually aim for 7-10 in my tanks. more is better than not enough, but too much is still too much. know what i mean?

anyway, an AC150 is probably perfect for that tank, but if you already own a 200, it's not going to hurt, and you can use it if you upgrade later.

On the Aquaclear the intake U joint, the part that goes into the unit has a little knob that sticks out thru the top, there is a + and - sign on it, + for more intake, and - for less intake.

Also, an AquaClear Mini is cheap and the max tank size is 20G the 150 is for 30G. I use both in a 33 Gallon community tank.

Thanks :)

I'm planning on getting a 150, but I had bought this for a 33g I was gonna buy, but I ended up getting a 66g instead. I figured I might as well get some use out of this one, as my tank was using a *gasp* Petcetera underground filter

Never follow the back of the box which says what gallonage its recommended for. I have a 200 on my 20 gallon breeder, and its no problem at all. It doesnt create that much of a movement in the water, and I wouldnt recommend anything less than a 200 on a 20 gallon tank. JMO

I use an AC 150 on my parents 20 gallon. But is is quite well planted and is well understocked. Since most people tend towards the overstocked type of tank the AC 200 is probably the better bet.

Essentially speaking even a filter that is too small for a tank can be fine if you are really understocked. I just would't recommend it. I think if you just take your tank size and multiply by 7-10 you get the filter flow size. That is for a 20g tank you'd want a flow in the 140 to 200 range for a tank that is well stocked. In your case up to 20 inches worth of fish give or take a few inches for girth and such. That is to say 2 one inch neon tetras will probably have less waste than say a two inch dwarf gourami. Less body mass overall and you get less waste. Ignore that if you have goldfish though.

I agree, it will be fine. Ive had much more filtration than that on a 20 gallon before, without any ill effects (although the tank had mostly fast swimming, stream-lined fish).
