Aqua clear too powerful?

One of the reasons why I was asking is because I had three deaths within 3 days of changing to the aqua clear. I think it was probably just a coincidence, but I wanted to make sure.

My two irredecent sharks both died the same day within an hour of eachother (had them for 3 weeks) and one of my Platy's died the next day (had him for a month and a half). Had no problems prior to this, and the rest of the fish seem fine.

I've only had my tank for just under 2 months, but this is the first time I've had any problems.
 
When you changed filters did you move some of the original filter media into the new aquaclear? If not, you lost a lot of beneficial bacteria and that is probably why your fish died. The bacteria on the filter's sponge and whatever else helped alot.

Something called the nitrogen cycle: fish produce ammonia, which is converted to nitrite and then to nitrate. Nitrite and ammonia are both lethal to fish. When you changed filters you lost the ability to convert ammonia and it built up.

When you clean your filter, just squeeze the sponge in tank water that is in a bucket. You don't want chlorine killing all your beneficial bacteria.

Hmm... that may be the problem. I took out the underground petcetera filter... i guess I should have taken it out. ****... I should have asked on here first. I asked the petcetera people, and they said go ahead and do it... should have known not to listen to them.
