My 10-20 gallon power filter is a newer filter...approximately 6 months old. I unplugged it tonight to do my routine cleaning of the tank, and when plugging it back in, it won't even work. I tried cleaning it out, jiggling the cord, trying other outlets etc...and to no avail, not even the slightest hum. Does this sound like the motor went bad?

I've searched high and low for my manual, only to find the box and the quick start guide. If it's not fixable I'm going to need to go out tonight and buy a new filter. If doing so, I will use the same bio-fiber cartridge that is in there to keep the healthy elements in it.

I only have one fantail goldfish in the tank.

Try nudging the impeller a little. Sometimes they can lock up when you unplug them. Just use something like a pen to move it.

I poured a ton of water in it, nothing can get it going. I rinsed it throroughly thinking something was lodged in there, still didn't work.

Where is the impeller located?

Thanks for your input everyone.

I was messing around with the hose (after my husband brought home a new filter) and while pushing it down into the impeller area, the pump started going and it's doing well.

Thanks again!

I'm not a fan of these pumps cause I had one for forever. This happened to mine all the time. Basically every cleaning. Next time just pop the impeller out during the cleaning, clean it off and it should start right back up for you.

part of the cleaning should include removing the impellar and cleaning the housing etc.

if the pick up pipe isn't nested all the way down the impellar will only push water around.
