I used to have tanks when years ago and have been out of everything for 10 years or so. I just got a good deal on a 75 gallon tank (this will be the biggest tank I have done) and looking just to do a community tank for my apartment. I got a Aquaclear 500 from my friend and have that running but have been looking at the Fluval 405 as well. I was thinking about just getting the Fluval and having both or should I just use the fluval and take off the Aquaclear. Another question I have never used a canister filter befor and was wondering what the reason for using a spraybar was?? (sorry if I sound a little dumb). I bought a Marineland stealth pro heater 250 watt for the tank and the green light has stayed on all the time. I have it set for 78 and my air conditioning is at 76 I guess the water may not need the heater. After I bought heater then read that people say to split the watts and get 2. Any answers for what I should do about the filters would be great!!! Thanks.

What area of the country are you in?

The Spray Bar is for dispersing the water over a greater area to decrease water flow but still have the same output.

It depends on what type of fish you are keeping. It's always good to over filter but if the filters are causing too much current for the fish it a problem. A 405 is good up to 100 gallons as stated buy Fluval optimum turn over is 340 GPH. Depending on the fish this may be enough. To conserve energy maybe think about a Sponge filter along with the 405 unless its a show tank. With both filters you have enough filtration for a 200 gallon tank.

I'd use both. My 125 s/a has (2) ac's with double sponges an (2) 405's with Seachem matrix, and very satisfied with results. Also with multiple filters, less chance of catastrophy with a filter failure.

Hey thanks for the heads up on the Sun Sun/ Perfect canister filter heads up. Just set it up and everything works great and very quiet
