Aquaclear 110 STILL noisy

yeah i might do that. but what about the filter media thats in it, its used and its just a little bit nasty. just dry it out and put it back in the box?

i guess my tank would be alright for the few hours it would take to get the new filter right?

Tanks would be fine for a few hours without the filter. I would just rinse off the filter media and ring it out. Then take it all back. When I worked at the lfs we got returns all the time. We took them all back for any reason. The suppliers would credit us for broken items, no matter what reason and never even asked to see the item.

personaly i get scared when i cant hear my filters, i'm constantly lookin under the cabinet to make sure the canister is workin

I have the exact same problem as dsaavedra. I am now on my fourth one after returning all the others to the store and they have all made that exact noise. Its loud and it really bugs me because its in my room where I sleep and watch T.V. I sent Aquaclear an e-mail, we will see what they have to say.

alot of people have trouble with aquaclears nowadays it seems. many forums have reports of faulty materials and workmanship. quality control issue i suspect.

I got a reply from Hagen and they said

" [FONT=&quot]We thank you for taking the time to contact us.

I am sorry to hear about the problem that you are experiencing with your Aqua Clear filter. What model is it that you have? If you could either fax or email me a copy of your receipt I can send you out a replacement impeller to see if that will help. They should be very quiet the only noise you should hear is the water falling back into the aquarium. If the replacement impeller does not help we can set it up so you can send the motor unit into us under the warranty and once received they will repair or replace and send back to you Fedex Ground."

So they said it themselves, we should only hear the noise of the water falling back into the aquarium. I got the new impeller already and put it in and it sounds the same. I'm not gonna send back the motor because I don't think that it will help and I don't have another filter to use in the meantime.

One more thing to try: try tilting the AC box a bit into (ot towards) your aquarium instead of just leveling it. I had this problem with an AC 30 and this solved it for me. I was also considering putting a dab of vasoline on the impellar and shaft stick. But tilting worked so I didn't do the vaseline thing.

To give them credit, I think that's pretty good customer service.

the motor is the only thing that moves the rest is just a shell, that is the problem,...

What do you mean? The impeller moves. The motor is what the impeller sits in. I cant see inside the motor so I don't know whats going on in there exactly but if I plug it in with no impeller it is silent.
