I've had this since January and bought it new. I've had no problems until tonight. I did my WC and cleaned out the sponge and now for some reason it won't turn back on. Any tips or advice? My husband is going to flip if we have a broken filter. :(

I unplug my filter when doing a water change so that it won't run dry, and I add water to the filter with a cup when I'm plugging it back in to prime it. The impeller might be stuck, and if so you could probably give it a nudge to get it back going.

I do the same things you do when I WC, turn it off and refill later.

I'm not sure what the problem was, I took it apart and the impeller looked clean, put it back together and it worked. Oh well, so much for my little freak out, lol.

I just did the exact same thing a month ago! I freaked out when it wouldn't turn back on. I took the whole thing apart and when I put it back together it worked.

Makes you crazy, don't it!? :y220d:

Lots of times with AC's a little piece of gunk (or other scientifically named particles) will settle into the impellar housing when they're turned off. Taking it apart or giving it a nudge as mentioned earlier will usually do the trick.

Not just AC's! I've had it happen at least once with every filter I have ever had, including powerheads. Just the nature of the beast I guess.

Same happened to me a while back. Taking out the impeller and clearing it and the housing unit with the motor fixed the problem.
