Hello first time posting here.

I recently bought an aquaclear 70 filter as a supplemental filter for my wet/dry sump. My tank is 90 gallons bought at Big Al's.

The trouble I'm having is that the black moulding on the tank is too wide. Thus the intake for the filter will not sit flush with the impeller and the filter is resting an inch above the water line.

Anybody else have similiar issues with this filter? Any suggestions?

Return it and get a bigger filter.

or.... be sketchy like i did.. i took a grinding wheel and just shaved off a 1.25 inch gap on the left side and a .10 inch gap on the right side. I think the overall distance was about 7.35 inches from one side to the other. I have a 60 gallon and the 70 came from another tank and it didn't work....til i haxored it..
good luck

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I needed to hear some of your ideas.

Unfortunately I can't return the filter since I don't have the reciept. I was contemplating the trimming or grinding the moulding so it would fit but I don't have the tools to do this. I could have used some elbow grease but alas too lazy.

I tried something else, I cut both stems from the intake and in its place I replaced it with 1" (interior diameter) clear tubing. At the impellor end I attach about 1 inch of the original piece so that it would connect snug with the impellor. The other end I attached the full length of the original piece to the tube as well.

The tubing allowed enough flexibility to bend around the extra 1/2 inch of width and the flow is nice and strong. Alas the 1 inch extra height wasn't solved but the main thing was the restoration of the flow.

Again thanks for the help. Sometimes a little JAD (Joint Application Development)session is all you need.:)

i have a 90 with a ac110 and its real nice best filter i ever had quiet
