Looking to add a second filter to my 80 gallon corner tank. Currently running a eheim 2026 and had a Fluval that has basically given up the ghost. I like having two for this very reason. So thoughts on either the Emperor series by Marineland or the Aquaclear series.

THanks!

I've used both, and both are good filters. AC tend to be quieter, but a Biowheel (though noisier) does provide a bit more surface agitation. The AC also comes with a larger quantity of media, but you can easily stuff the box of an Emperor with any media of your choice. I have far more AC than anything else, because they're so reliable and quiet. I only use Biowheel filters on taller tanks where the other filter is a canister and I want more surface agitation. It's really just personal preference, though, because they're both good filters.

I have a Aquaclear on my 90 gallon and my 10 gallon. I love them. I used to have a bio-wheel filter on my 10 gallon but ended up taking it off. No matter how often I cleaned that thing, it was always stopping and replacing the cartridges was getting to be expensive. For some reason, rinsing them off didn't work. They were still clogged. Other than some floss, I have yet to purchase any filter material for my aquaclears. When the filters get dirty, I just rinse them and we're off to the races again.

For what few HOB I run, they are AC. They have been the most reliable for me.

Have an AC110 and 50, never a problem, got my AC110 in petsmart for $33 on a great deal.

I love my AC

I have both but also prefer the aquaclear filters for their versatility of media, adjustable flow, and the fact that they are significantly quieter.
