AquAdvisor - software to help you stock your tanks!

Here are some of my thoughts:

  • Common Pleco probably shouldn't be called "Peaceful." Maybe just slap a warning on it since they are pretty peaceful when young/small? They also reach up to 24" with 18" pretty common.
  • GBRs are more Peaceful than Semi-Aggressive.
  • Honey Gourami = Peaceful.
  • Kribensis is Semi-Aggressive at worst, unless they're breeding.
  • Pearl Gourami = Peaceful.
  • RTS is probably more Semi-Aggressive than Aggressive, IME/IMO.
  • "Peacock" could probably use more explanation.
  • "Zebra Danio" has a typo.It's Betta, not beta.
  • Cardinal Tetras reach 2" not the reported 1.7".
  • Clown Loaches can reach more like 16".
  • Zebra Danios are more like 1.8" - perhaps 2" at the very most. I suspect that any site that claims 2.5" is counting the flowing fins of the long-finned strains.
All in all, most problems are going to come from the aggression labels. Maybe a 1-10 scale with 10 being the most aggressive and 1 being the least aggressive would be more effective.
Comments and (especially) scientific names would be fantastic.

I hope you'll add my fish that aren't on there! :D (Ember Tetras and Sawbwa resplendens ["Rummynose Rasboras"])

I thought about using a real DB but did not, for now. I found a easy way to manage it and it works well. I basically use a big Excel sheet to store all fish DB, and the last column constructs C# statements which I can directly paste into my code... :D Unconventional, but it works and its simple. As a bonus, since all info are stored in memory, it is really fast.

Using excel isn't that bad, another method you could do (clearly only if you prefer) but may require a little more work, are comma delimited text, usually you can export those from excel anyway, might be quicker, then again with this day and age probably would not make a difference.
 
Mine won't let me unzip the file... telling me it's either an unsupported file or damaged.

Update: Okay so now it finally installed. 4th time is the charm I guess. While it had an error the first time loading, it's fine now. Not sure what the issue was before LOL I love they way this program works, I just wish you had more tetra options, and also some cold water fishes in the database would be awesome! Thanks so much for such neat software!

Thanks for your comments. I do realize that there are many variables hence calculation is not simple. The program does not use the inch per gallon rule at all... It tries to take into account surface area, length, and waste they produce in relation to their length. I ran it through about 20 stocking advices from this forum and they came out ok so far.

Thanks for the comments. Some of my comments to yours:

Your aggression comments are informative - I'll take those into account. Right now, internally, it uses scale of 1 - 5. Also, I have 3 types of aggressions which I don't use in the analysis - aggression within the same species, aggression across other species and aggression when spawning. Hopefully some day, I will be able to use all of them. I don't intend to leave the label as is - I want it to be able to figure out the compatibility for you.

Good idea on comments and scientific names... :)

For now, I like Excel. It allows me to review the list easily and I can sort them based on any of the columns which hold attributes for each fish. Easier for me to add new entries to since I can copy from a similar fish and make modifications. The program may outgrow this scheme someday. :)
 
I used WinRAR and 7zip. I tried to extract the whole file, then each piece individually. Same result.
