Hi everyone,

I've got a 29gal community tank with a standard blank stand that has a door to allow for storage of foods, chemicals, hoses, etc. I'm sure most people have or have had something like this before.

The problem I'm getting into, though, is how to store everything I have under there. It doesn't all fit anymore. With 3 tanks, but only one on an official stand, I can's really fit 2 5-gallon buckets, 3 vacuums (one is the 50-foot no-spill hose), nets, foods, medications, testers, extra decorations, aquarium-only bowls and sponges and...well, you know how it is.

So, how do you all store this stuff? Under your stands? Is this a good excuse for getting a bigger tank with a bigger stand? :) Outside your stands? How do you do it attractively? My girlfriend is sick of having hoses and buckets where they shouldn't be. Any other storage area is either full (closets) or too close to chemicals (bathroom storage, under kitchen sink, etc.).

Any tips you might have are greatly appreciated!

I have a "fish closet" holding stored water in 2 44 gallon Brute garbage cans, shelving for hard goods, and hose hangers for... hoses. It really helped me to get everything centrally located in one place- previously I had several stashes spread all over the house and could never just walk to that "one small thing".

Fish Closet......that's what I have too. For everything that can't fit under, I wrap up neatly and place on the shelves of the closet... this goes for meds and other chems, breeder nets, extra tubing, water pot (used only for the tank), gravel, heaters, filter parts, and anything else that might not be used so often. I usually only keep the food, a net, and the python under the tank in the stand and a bottle of dechlorinator for water changes.......

Before this house I had one, then two (small) fish closets. Now I have the utimate in luxury you would think, as I have a fish room. But guess what? there is not enough room in the fish room. Back to stealing closets, with grumbles from the spouse. At least the Python hangs over the fish room sink and the buckets still fit on shelves almost in contact with the ceiling.

Wow, everyone has closets! That must be nice. :) We're fairly short on closet space, so no dice on that one.

I can, however, split things up into "frequently needed" and "rarely needed" categories and see what kind of space that gives me.

Another thought I had was to put some shelves into the storage area in the tank stand. Any idea if drilling holes into the stand would compromise its ability to hold a full tank?

Thanks, everyone! Now I know what to look for in a new place--fish closets! ;)

i installed shelves in my wood stand. the stability in most wood stands is in the corners, so drilling 4 to 8 screws into the sides wouldnt hurt it any i wouldnt think. hasn't hurt me any anyways.

actually you are right there is little or no support from the sides, and if done properly it would not comprimise the strength. I would use the small shallow shef hangers rather than screws or nails that show from the outside.

Thanks, everyone! I think this is all the info I need. I appreciate it!

If your tank stand has doors.. You can put hanging shelves on the inside of the doors for keeping smaller stuff organized. Add a $5.00 flourescent light on the top (inside), and you can see all the stuff... ;)

i made little shelves inside the stands, and ll the extras goes in the spare bathtub, i have 80 gallon tanks stacked in there cause theres no more room or money to set them up.
