Aquarium clubs

I figured it would be pretty boring myself but I'm sure glad I made a meeting just to see what was going on. I joined up with the Oklahoma City aquarium Association in June and it's been one of the best things I've ever done. We meet once a month and there is a topic discussed by someone in the club each month. Last month was on catfish, the month before that was killifish and the month before that was fish disease. This coming month we're discussing anabantoids. It is extremely informative and usually gets people interested in the subject fish enough to go find some. We also have an auction each meeting where you can find unusual fish and plants at extremely low prices which help the club funds out somewhat. In addition, there is a lot of private discussions going on within the meeting over various subjects. There always seems to be someone with an answer to your questions no matter how common or how rare. I'm also a member of the AKA killifish association and a local killifish club. It is well worth the time, at least around here. Kyle

I belong to PVAS - Potomac Valley Aquarium Society - and admit that I do not go very often as the meeting are some distance away. I also belong to GWAPA - Greater Washington Aquatic Plants Association - and hosted the last meeting here at the house (everyone got to see the tank room in mid-rebuild - some thrill there, garbage and equipment everywhere).

PVAS just staged a big Catfish Convention, and GWAPA is hosting the AGA Convention shortly. Both are very active groups, great folks, tons of info.

I usually attend the auctions also. I don't think I would have enough time to go to every meeting. Do a google search to find an aquarium club in your area, or buy a tropical fish magazine because they usually have a list of clubs in different states in the back of the book.

Anyone know of any Aquarium clubs in the Long Island, NY area???? or where i can possibly search for one. thanks :)

the chamber of comerce usually has record of contact information for all the civic clubs in the area. you could try contacting your local chamber or all the ones in an area you would be willing to drive to.
