With my grandkids and dogs around it wouldn't last long. Besides, once you get a little condensation on the top you couldn't see through it.

my brother would use it as a foot rest just to make me mad and the tank would break. I have 3 brothers and I am the youngest.

Looks nice, would definitely be a conversation piece, but lets think about the fish.

1) Heating
One problem I see with the tank is that your fish will be very low to the ground. If you live in a place where you will get cold winters, your tank would need some serious heating and the temp must be monitored closely. Keep in mind that cold air will be at floor level and the use of central heating can never heat up your entire home evenly. Think cold pockets of air when you walk around barefoot during the winter.

2) Cooling
Same as above but think that in the summer months with central AC your tank temp will still need to be monitored closely.

3) Noise & Disturbances
Ground vibrations while walking, walking around, kids and pets running around, accidents, bumping, the sound of cups being placed on and removed from the top, loud conversations, loud television or radio. Just a few things to consider. All of these would cause some serious stress in fish. Remember the golden rule "Don't tap on the glass!".

These are just a few items that I see might be a problem. This product is more for the "showoff" than a true fish enthusiast.

Just my 2 cents.

I hear that these, like most novelty aquariums are an all around bad idea. The fish will get stressed. There are often inadequate filtration and heating. You can only keep goldfish because 1. u cannot use a heater, 2. tropical fish are not great to view from above, goldfish are bred for this. If you want tropical fish, u cannot use a heater because it will fog the glass top. And if you want to keep that glass top crystal clear, u need to clean it constantly. Although they do look cool in the pictures. I think an indoor fish above ground fish pond would be a better idea.

Why can't you use a heater? I can see that there is a clearance between the top of the tank and the table top of around 1-2" everywhere but the corners. So cords running over the top would not be a problem and just a little airflow (like a ceiling fan) would make sure there was little to no condensation (If there was even that need for airflow to prevent condensation).

I saw a remodeling show once (While you were out) that put one of these in a remodeled room and dumped about 30 goldfish in it.

Gift tanks of any kind are a bad idea except to a known aquarist. But any number of fish in an uncycled tank, much less goldfish? Death city.

But I still don't care to have one.

I think it's a bad idea. How would you like to be trapped in a glass box with objects constantly being placed on top and making noise?

I think it is an awesome idea if properly built. I love the idea of having my tank being so close to where I am relaxing and being an item I can actually use and enjoy...I would definitely be open to one. :dance2:

You better decide where you want that coffee table before you fill it, because it's staying there!

Most folks I know like to be able to shift their coffee table around a bit.
