I got my tank and hood previously owned and the hood part in the back with the knockouts has every single one knocked out along the back. I dont know if the previous owner used alot of "stuff" with it or what, but since I only have one solitary filter in the back all those knocked out spaces left a bunch of long holes for fishies to jump through or other things to get in.

Is there a way to repair the knockouts? or cover them somehow without using *blah* tape? The tank and hood are made by All-Glass Aquarium ( www.all-glass.com )

Since its black Id say just put some black electric tape over the holes adn it will look fine. If the hoels are not to big then I would not even worry about the fish jumping through as I am sure they dont see a hole in the hood and specifically aim for it.

Just get a piece of thin black plastic from a place like tap plastic, or a plastic file folder (does not need to be thick at all just black). Cut a strip that will cover the entire back of the hood covering all the holes and cut a new hole in the new plastic for your filter...

If you want to cover the holes without reducing air flow, but prevent jumpers, just use nylon mesh. Works well, won't pollute the tank, easily removed, etc.

Well its not black, its brown with oak sticker trim. My tank trim is oak and so is the hood lining and stand. I am thinking is it possible to have a piece of glass cut to fit over the back part of the tank to cover the holes? Or would a peice of plexiglass be better since I would be able to cut out sections for filter and such easier then glass? There is a support panel in the middle of the tank so it shouldnt sag.

I did go to Walmart and get the nylon mesh last night but it isnt happening for me and I am still wondering if small mosquitos can get in through the mesh (which I have see 2 mosquitos hanging around the tank already).

Sounds odd but I actually used plastic wrap to cover my tank once you have to cut it to fit then put some double sided tape on the corners of the tank and stretch it as tight as possible then cut off the excess so it doesnt hang off the sides. It doesnt Look bad and is probably the cheapest alternative.

I would go plexi, it is easier to work with and as you stated cut later on if you need to...

FOr cheap plexi check ebay it usually saves you a good chunk of change over yuor local hardware store. As you can buy used stuff or thinner since you only need about 1/8" thickness max and most hardware stores only carry 1/4" and above.

Avoid plexiglass as a lid

Unless it is cast plexiglass don't use it as lids. Most thin plexiglass material is anhydrous and absorbs water and will warp. I found a source of cheap plexiglass(broken corner) at Lowes and had it cut to fit my 10 gallon tank with drilled holes for the heater and an airline for a sponge filter. The lid warps with the ends curling away from the water. I can turn it over and move the airstone and heater but in two days or so it has curled the other way. Use some other material besides plexiglass

wouldn't the fish eat the mosquitoes? As far as plexiglass there has to be sometype out there tath will work. Restrounts and some homeowvers use this as a backsplash behind sinks and it seems to work good. I am not that knowledgeble about this, there has gotta be soemthing. Just a thought why don't you buy one of those rubbermaid containers in the color you want and cut a piece off of it io fit?
