timer here too. Kicks on at 6am and kicks off at 5:45pm. Love not having to mess with it.

could having irregular light timing upset the fish?

I tend to just turn it off whenever i go to sleep... is it hurting them?

I wish fish could talk.

assuming they are not on too long, they are probably not being hurt, but fish thrive on regularity so it helps to have a set lighting schedule. Like I mentioned before, a timer is only a few dollars at walmart.

12 hours here, on around 10am off at 10pm. All my tanks are on timers.

12 hours a day here too, lights on about 1030 am ond off about 2230 pm, I have always wondere about adding a blue light for a moon light effect, Think I will.
