Ive been doing it since I started keeping cichlids, http://unclenedsfishfactory suggested I use salt for the cichlids I keep. Neds cichlid knowledge is amazing, so I listened to him. Ive had good luck breeding cichlids and keeping them alive for many years.
Why shouldnt I use salt?
certain fish do need it, but others do very well without it. I wouldn't use salt, because it is easier to keep stable water conditions for the fish, if you don't have to add anything.
I think many times there is confusion referencing salt. Aqaurium salt usually has a high NaCl when many time s salt that is added is in the form of buffers (mineral salts)
many CA cichlids are from water that has a high gH and may contain buffers.
